October Artist of the Month!

October 1, 2024

Congratulations to Jeff Severson for being our October artist of the month! Jeff’s work can be seen in our 2024 community calendar! More about Jeff:
Jeff Severson is a nature and landscape photographer from the Town of Esopus, NY. He first began exploring photography with his first camera, a Canon PowerShot, soon after discovering his other hobby of hiking in 2008. A few years after discovering photography, he upgraded to, and has continued to use, various Canon DSLR cameras. While most of his photography is focused in the Hudson Valley region, mainly Ulster and Dutchess Counties, he has also had the opportunity to photograph some beautiful locations in the Blue Ridge Mountain Region of NC and TN as well as Ricketts Glen State Park in PA.
Jeff’s full-time job is owner of J.T.S. Design, Inc., a web development company that he founded in 2003. He entered the web development field soon after graduating from Ulster County Community College in 1999 with a degree in Computer Information Systems—Microcomputers in Business. He began his career first as a web assistant and, soon after, a web programmer for a local web design company in Saugerties. As a web developer, he has provided services to companies and organizations throughout the Hudson Valley, the tri-state region, and throughout the United States.
Jeff is a founding member and former Chair of HYPE, the Huguenot Young Professionals & Entrepreneurs. He is also a former board member for the New Paltz Regional Chamber of Commerce.

How to Combat Check Fraud

April 16, 2024

The U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the American Bankers Association have partnered to provide resources to help combat check fraud:

Consumers can take several actions to protect their mail including:

  • Get your mail promptly after delivery. Don’t leave it in your mailbox overnight.
  • If you’re heading out of town, ask the post office to hold your mail until you return.
  • Sign up for informed delivery at USPS.com. It sends you daily email notifications of incoming mail and packages.
  • Contact the sender if you don’t receive mail that you’re expecting.
  • Consider buying security envelopes to conceal the contents of your mail.
  • Use the letter slots inside your Post Office to send mail.

To protect their checks, bank customers can take the following actions:

  • Use pens with indelible black ink so it is more difficult for a criminal to wash your checks.
  • Don’t leave blank spaces in the payee or amount lines.
  • Don’t write personal details, such as your Social Security number, credit card information, driver’s license number or phone number on checks.
  • Use mobile or online banking to access copies of your checks and ensure they are not altered. While logged in, review your bank activity and statements for errors.
  • If your bank provides an image of a paid check, review the back of the check to ensure the indorsement information is correct and matches the intended payee, since criminals will sometimes deposit your check unaltered.
  • Consider using e-check, ACH automatic payments and other electronic and/or mobile payments.
  • Follow up with payees to make sure that they received your check.

Consumers who suspect they have been a victim of check fraud should file a report immediately with:

December 2023 Artist of the Month

December 1, 2023

Congratulations to Julian Diamond for being our December artist of the month! Julian’s work can be seen in our 2024 community calendar!
More about Julian:
Julian Diamond is a self-taught landscape photographer based in Dutchess County, New York, in the heart of the Hudson Valley. He has been interested in photography since childhood and devoted to the craft for over a decade. His technique has been shaped by a number of artistic influences: the treatment of light by the 19th century Hudson River School painters; the bold compositions of great American West landscape photographers, like Adams, Muench, and Rowell; and his peers with whom he swaps ideas and inspiration each day. His images have been featured in regional and national publications, licensed by local businesses and governmental agencies, and displayed on Capitol Hill in the 2018 photo exhibit, ‘United by the Appalachian Trail.’ Evening and twilight scenes feature heavily in Julian’s work, with starry skies and fireflies making routine appearances in his prints.
