What does FDIC insured mean?

The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) is an independent agency of the United States government that protects depositors of insured banks against the loss of their deposits if an insured bank fails. Deposits at Rondout Savings Bank are insured by the FDIC up to the maximum amount allowed by law. The standard insurance amount is $250,000 per depositor per insured bank for each account ownership category. Deposits maintained in different categories of legal ownership at the same bank can be separately insured. Therefore, it is possible to have deposits of more than $250,000 at an insured bank and still be fully insured. To determine if your specific deposits are fully insured, please visit the FDIC’s website at www.fdic.gov/edie.
